Grow

I am passionate about Tennis and our Planet. I spend a lot of hours in tennis training and exploring nature through photography. So when I needed to develop a project for my Primary School (Discovery College)  Year 6 Exhibition, I decided to combine my passions and develop an idea to reduce wastage of Tennis Balls and Cans.

Discover

Discovery Process included 4 stages. I explored facts through online search, studied what people did through an online survey and conducted expert interviews to learn how to reduce wastage. I also visited public and private courts to observe what people do with balls after they finish playing.

  • Internet Search
  • Online Survey
  • Expert Interviews
  • Tennis Courts

I used Google and other resources such as various tennis websites to find out total number of balls and cans that are used around the world. I also explored whether there are any other similar ideas that are done in Hong Kong or other countries. I was surprised that there were only handful of initiatives to reduce wastage of balls and cans.

I wanted to understand behaviour of tennis players in Hong Kong. I used Survey Monkey to create a short survey. I found it more useful because Google Form was giving some problems because of auto translation. I sent out the survey through email, WhatsApp, and took help from adults to post it on Facebook. This survey helped me in getting important data.

I also felt that more experienced adults know a lot more about this subject compared to a primary student like me. So I decided to conduct interviews with several tennis experts like the President of Hong Kong Tennis Association, Tennis Coaches, Former Professionals, Active Players, Manufacturers of Balls, Academies, and Club Managers to find out their current approach and discussed how to execute my idea.

As a part of my research I visited different tennis courts and clubs to observe what players do and also to understand from club management how they reduce wastage. I visited several public courts in Hong Kong (Victoria Park, Causeway Bay Ground, HKTC Gap, Bowen Road, National Training Center Kowloon Tsai Park, Shek Kip Mei, Morse Park, Tseun King Circuit and Tsing Yi Park). I also visited private clubs such as DBRC, Club Siena, CRC, LRC, HKFC, KTC, IC and IRC.

Dream

My parents, teachers, coaches and friends always encourage me to Dream big. I thought of creating a Movement to raise awareness and drive positive action. I created many many names for my project but finally found a nice name Every Ball Matters. Luckily I could get the website name.  I started building my content in Google site but it was very basic. So I used my free time to learn basics of website building tool like wordpress to create this website. I used savings from my pocket money to buy this website name, buy a wordpress theme and also web hosting.

I hope you like it. I am happy to improve it as I learn more things.
